Tamburitza fest ended with the performance of Dženan Lončarević, who has performed at this festival for the second time, but, as he himself said before the concert, he never expected such a large audience.
“I will always gladly return to Tamburitza Fest and the audience in Petrovaradin. I want to commend the organizers for another successful festival. All I can say is – working with good people is always easy”, said Lončarević to the media and went on to sing popular songs, both his own and those by other artists, for more than two hours.
The audience was singing along with Lončarević, just like it had been doing for the previous two nights with the best tamburitza players and Zvonko Bogdan, Garavi Sokak and Marija Šerifović.
After four days, the 11th World Tamburitza Fest ended on Saturday night in the best way possible. The satisfied organizers greeted the audience and the performers, announcing that the Featured Country at the Festival in 2019 will be Hungary.

“They can accompany me better than the police!” – Zvonko Bogdan
Day two of the 11th World Tamburitza Fest saw the performance of the children’s tamburitza orchestra The Pearls of Lecedery Heart, official opening ceremony followed by the fireworks, the music of Garavi Sokak and the charming concert by Zvonko Bogdan.
The audience at Petrovaradin fortress first heard the well-known pop and traditional songs such as Oko moje sanjivo, Ja samo pjevam, A ti se nećeš vratiti, performed by the children’s tamburitza orchestra The Pearls of Lecedery Heart, whose solo performers attracted a lot of attention from the audience and were greeted with several rounds of applause. What is interesting is that the organizers decided to once again donate a certain part of the money acquired through the festival to children’s tamburitza school and instruments.
The Chinese Counsellor for Cultural Affairs Xu Hong officially opened the 11th World Tamburitza Fest and took the opportunity to sing the composition Ovo je Srbija (This is Serbia) in order to express his gratitude towards the organizers for choosing China as this year’s Featured Country at the Festival.
After the fireworks lighting up the part of Vojvodina’s capital overlooking Petrovaradin, the program was continued by the sound of Garavi Sokak, and the group’s frontman Bane Krstić started the concert with the popular song Biće bolje ako budeš tu, da ljubav pobedi.
Zvonko Bogdan was in a very good mood as he followed the entire program of the Tamburitza Fest and this evening ended with the songs of this tamburitza schlager music singer which are popular across the region. Emphasizing that music knows no borders, Zvonko Bogdan took the chance to express his great pleasure at performing with the RTV Vojvodina Tamburitza Orchestra.
“Tonight I will perform with the only pure tamburitza orchestra in the whole world. And that is exactly why I agreed to performed with them! You will not believe this, but they accompany me better than the police!” With this funny intro, Zvonko Bogdan won the hearts of the audience at the very beginning of the concert which he started by singing Na te mislim i kad zora sviće, a song by the Slavonian author Vladimir Nikolić, and everybody sang along with Mr. Bogdan from the first song to the very last one.

Director Sali Saliji – Sallini: “Tamburitza Fest – this is a great honor for me.”
11th World Tamburitza Fest was opened with the premiere of Tamburitza the Sound of a Landscape directed by Sali Saliji – Sallini, a Turkish director originally from Serbia, who attended the premiere of his film at the Cultural Center of Novi Sad.
Many famous people, artists, actors and musicians were a part of this three-part documentary, in which they talked about Vojvodina, the magic of the tamburitza as an instrument, and finally about the greatest master of schlager music – Zvonko Bogdan.
“Not many people know that Zvonko Bogdan wrote many of the songs he sings. His decision to cover the song I wrote and sang with Saša Lošić for the TV series Vratiće se rode (The Storks Will Return) was a great honor for me as it would be for any musician – to be asked by Zvonko Bogdan if he can sing your song”, said Momčilo Bajagić Bajaga, remembering in the film how surprised he was with the popularity of the song Vratiće se rode. According to him, this might be his song that best describes the sound of the landscape depicted in the film.
Bane Krstić, a famous singer-songwriter from Vojvodina, was among the people interviewed for this documentary. He talked about tamburitza, music and the plain.
“Vojvodina seems like a flat sheet. But it’s not. It’s full of life, the home of twenty six nations. There are just as many cultures, which is why Vojvodina is characterized by the art of both social and cultural interaction”, said the founder of Garavi Sokak, who also expressed that he is proud of the fact that Zvonko Bogdan, among others, sang his song Ko te ima taj te nema.
“When I wrote that song, I was going through the most difficult period of my life. I wrote the chorus in five minutes, but the verses took me three months to finish. There were fifty four versions of the verses, but only the final three survived. People said to me: ‘Don’t sing that, that’s philosophy and people don’t like that’, but look at it now…Everyone knows that song, and if Zvonko Bogdan hadn’t sung it, this song would never become such a hit adored by many”, said Bane Krstić.
Other ethnomusicologists, music editors, actors and professors of music talked about that famous sound of tamburitza which is usually associated with this region and so perfectly captures the happiness, sadness and day-to-day life in Vojvodina.
“That’s why it is important for our tamburitza songs to be polite and modest”, concluded Zvonko Bogdan, who would perform at Tamburitza Fest with his tamburitza orchestra the following day on the Petrovaradin fortress.
The documentary Tamburitza the Sound of a Landscape premiered in Novi Sad, and the goal is for this film to be shown at many documentary film festivals in the region in order to promote Vojvodina, tamburitza and the music created by this magical instrument in the best light possible.

CHINA, FEATURED COUNTRY AT THE FESTIVAL
THE People’s Republic of China is this year’s “featured country” at the 11th World Tamburitza Fest 2018, which will be held from June 20 to 23 at the Petrovaradin fortress in Novi Sad. This was confirmed yesterday by H.E. Mr. Li Manchang, ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Serbia and Jovan Pejčić, director of Tamburitza Fest, who also made plans for cultural cooperation in which our tamburitza orchestra will perform in the world’s most populous country.
Tamburitza Fest has 1,350 million new friends, says Pejčić. This year’s festival will open with an all-night performance by the China National Ensemble from Beijing, at Trg slobode (Liberty Square) in the center of Novi Sad on June 21, which is World Music Day. His Excellency Mr. Li Manchang was gifted the tamburitza on which Danilo Ninković, the music editor of the festival, played an instrumental number. The ambassador recognized the melody right away – it was the traditional song “Osam tamburaša…”. We are all ecstatic about the upcoming collaboration with Chinese musicians.
Last year, which marked the 10th anniversary of the World Tamburitza Festival, the “featured country” was the Russian Federation, and the event in Novi Sad was opened by the National Ensemble of Traditional Instruments from the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. In this way, Tamburitza Fest has once again established Novi Sad as the European Capital of Culture 2021.
THE ENSEMBLE “ZORULE” FROM NOVI SAD THE WINNER OF THIS YEAR’S FESTIVAL
The best tamburitza orchestra of the ninth international tamburitza festival “Tamburitza Fest 2016″, which hosted 10 orchestras from seven countries in its competition part from 21 to 25 June, is the Novi Sad-based ensemble “Zorule”. This is the decision of the professional jury of this year’s festival composed of professor Franjo Batorek (Croatia), Spomenko Guzijan (Serbian Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Danilo Ninković (Serbia).
The main festival prize was given to Zoran Bugarski, the leader of the ensemble “Zorule”, who is voted the best prim (tamburitza) player as well. The prize was presented by Jovan Pejčić PhD, the Festival Director.
Jozef Kovac from Hungary, the member of “Mohács” ensamble, is the best bas-prim (tamburitza) player while Mario Sesvečan of Croatian orchestra “Uspomena” is the best begeš (contrabass) player.
The best new song “Lud za tobom” was performed by the Serbian orchestra “Tajna” and the best vocalist is Stjepan Fortuna from the Austrian band “Gradištanci”. Awards for artistic expression and keeping tradition were given to “Zlatna suza” (Romania) and “Banjalučki merak” (Serbian Republic, Bosnia and Herzegovina), while the audience award went to the orchestra “Garavi” (Croatia). The orchestra “Sremska banda” (Serbia) was awarded by journalists.
-As well as before, this year’s “Tamburica fest” participants showed exceptional performance, which is a great incentive for the 10th anniversary festival to be held next year in June for which preparations will start as of the next day- said Jovan Pejčić PhD, the Festival Director.
20 tamburitza bands performed in exibition part at this year’s festival of the masters of tamburitza in Novi Sad and at the Petrovaradin Fortress, together with popular singers Halid Bešlić, Zoran Kalezić, Zvonko Bogdan and Đorđe Čavić, and the orchestras “Dijako”, “Mesečina”, “Vojvođanski tamburaši”, Vasa Jovanović’s orchestra and “Hercenšlus”.
PAINTERS TOGETHER WITH TAMBURITZA PLAYERS
SPECIAL contribution to “Tamburica Fest”, which supports Novi Sad in candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2021 with its programme, is given by visual artists. For that reason, the ninth session of the Art Colony “Tamburica fest 2016″, which involves nine artists, will be tradiotionally held at this year’s “Tamburica Fest”. The nineth international tamburitza festival, “Tamburica Fest 2016″, will host tamburitza orchestras from eight countries which will perform on Liberty Square in the centre of Novi Sad and at the Petrovaradin Fortress from 21 to 25 June.
The artists Janos Meszaros, Branka Stojsavljević, Slobodan Miljević, Silvija Jelačić, Kolja Obrovski, Saša Dobrić, Igor Cvejanović, Slobodan Bajić and Borivoj Popržan will present their works at the festival.
-Artistic impression of the relationship between music and images is becoming more meaningful by the time and for that reason the selection goes on the side of the artists who have a good sense of this matter and who can currently give the highest contribution – says Borivoj Popržan, the selector of the Art Colony. – It is my pleasure that nine artists will participate at ‘tam-tam burica’ festival, who haven’t just gladly accepted the invitation but have enthusiastically welcomed the theme of the art colony- synesthesia of ethnomusicology and visual art in the process of compassionate cogitation, listening and painting.
This year’s session of the painters aims to raise awareness about the justification and improvement of visual content of the festival and to charge the festival atmosphere with distinct, clear and refreshful artistic impressions expressed through the thematic engagement and conversations, all contributing to the promotion of the colony at the festival.
- The Art Colony is held in an impressive outdoor setting at the Petrovaradin Fortress overlooking the river, which together with the view of Fruška Gora provides great inspiration for the painters and contributes to the development of the theme. In a special way the artistic creation is led by the process of synesthesia which turns the memory of the former sea through listening into the concept of an image. The participants of this year’s session will be very happy to meet four or five tamburitza bands and together with their brushes and strings they will make the atmosphere at the Petrovaradin Fortress even more beautiful – said Popržan.
The exhibition of works from this year’s art colony “Tamburica Fest 2016″ opens on Friday, June 24 at 20 pm on the Art circle Terrace at the Petrovaradin Fortress (in front of the studio of Borivoje Popržan). The festival artists will present 20 works and the exhibition will be opened by our famous painter Janos Meszaros.

TAMBURITZA SEPCTACLE FOR THE CAPITAL OF CULTURE
Today, on7 June, the shooting of the video for RTV Vojvodina and “Tamburica Fest” has begun at the Petrovaradin Fortress. The video is being made to promote the unique tamburitza festival, support the candidacy of Novi Sad for the European Capital of Culture 2021, as well as to present the tourist potential of the city. More than a hundred tamburitza players, 100 members of a mixed choir and 50 dance couples and members of cultural and artistic societies played, sang and danced to Strauss’”On the Beautiful Blue Danube” and the great tamburitza hits, which created a spectacular scene in front of the Clock Tower.
- It is really a wonderful feeling to play in front of the famous Clock Tower and to play one of the most beautiful compositions for the tambura, “On the Beautiful Blue Danube” – says Saša Šćitaroci- Obad, a tambura player.
Jadranka Gojić, PR coordinator of the “Tamburica fest” emphasizes that the organizers are delighted by the enthusiastic response of tamburitza players, who showed love for art and understanding of the importance of keeping tradition, as they did many times before.
-The atmosphere is beautiful and the result will certainly be the best one. This shooting is actually the most beautiful introduction to the upcoming festival days, starting on June 21, in the streets of Novi Sad with tamburitza players and running until 25 June at the Petrovaradin Fortress- said Gojić.
This year’s festival, the ninth international tamburitza festival, will be held from 21 to 25 June in Novi Sad and at the Petrovaradin Fortress with the participation of 10 tamburitza bands from seven countries in the competition part of the festival while the popular singers ZvonkoBogdan, Halid Bešlić and Zoran Kalezić will perform in the exhibition part along with the orchestra “Dyaco” …
This year, the ninth international tamburitza festival “Tamburica Fest 2016″, which will be held from 21 to 25 June in Novi Sad and at the Petrovaradin Fortress, will show a new couple of hosts, Jadranka Gojić, the PR coordinator of the festival and the lead singer in the ladies tamburitza orchestra “La banda” and Aleksandar Filipović, the man ‘born to be a journalist’, the author and host of one of the most watched entertaining TV shows, “Tabloid”.
-It is a great challenge for me – says Jadranka.- I love challenges and this is my first time in this role and I believe I’m going to find my way. Considering that I have been the lead singer of the band “La banda” since October 2014, I have stage experience in front of cameras, lights and the audience. The team of people who organize “Tamburitza Fest” has been with me, supporting me, believing in me and I am lucky that way. Also, I have great support from Aleksnadar. We are different personalities, but that’s why we will get along well and I am honored to work with him.
It is interesting that the two hosts of this year’s festival will announce their performances in several major shows in our country and what the special feature of this year’s promotion of “Tamburica fest” is, is that both Aleksandar and Jadranka love to sing very much.
- I am very pleased that, along with my younger colleague Jadranka, I will be a part of the new energy of “Tamburica fest ” … – says Filipović. – I see the invitation to join the successful team of “Tamburica Fest” as a compliment and I’m very glad to have the opportunity to announce the performances of some brilliant tamburitza orchestras and, of course, the music scene legends, ZvonkoBogdan and Halid Bešlić. Mr Bešlić is a great friend of mine. I was the first person from Serbian media to interview him. I visited his home on that occasion and we made a great show. Also, tamburitza music is actually what I personally prefer to listen to, something which I find really pleasurable. This festival has always contributed to the rating of my show because all the participants have been presented in the “Tabloid”, either as guests in the studio or through reporter stories … Simply, I believe that my show has been popular and well recognized for nearly twenty years, and “Tamburica” hosts only the best and most popular performers which is what contributed a lot to the rating and quality of my shows. So, welcome to “Tamburica fest” which will provide us with some new adrenalin and energy this year.
